Trip Planning
Add trip planning capabilities to OneBusAway
Welcome to OneBusAway Feedback!
OneBusAway is a set of tools to help make using public transit easier and we want your ideas on how we can make these tools even better. You can submit ideas for new features, suggestions for bugs fixes, or other advice how we can improve. More importantly, you can see ideas that others have already submitted and vote for the ones you think are most important.
For a discussion of how we will use ideas submitted here to help guide future development for OneBusAway, check out How We Decide What to Work on Next.
We appreciate your feedback and ideas for OneBusAway. We hope to keep making OneBusAway better one good idea at a time.

Send a notification when the bus is approaching a specific stop. This would be particularly useful if you don't know the area or do a lot of reading on the bus and therefore prone to missing your stop.

Add the Complete Stop Schedule to the mobile app. Sometimes I want to check a stop for when a bus should arrive > 30 minutes in the future. A full schedule would be nice to see estimated times for future planning.

Sometimes there are buses from different stops to essentially the same place. It would save time to be able to search them in one go by asking the client for all buses to (e.g.) 4th & Lucile, instead of having to check each stop where one might be coming in turn.

Ability to merge two stops together in a bookmark. For example: 5th Ave & Jackson AND IDS Bay D: I wait for either a 550, 216, 554, or 211 to Mercer Island and have to jump between two bookmarks to get arrival times. If I could filter the results, that would be even cooler!

I would very much like to see an older feature brought back. It was probably the most useful feature in this app. It was the area designation box in the on screen map controls. At whatever level of zoom was being used it would designate that as the search boundary. This would allow you to browse for the bus in your area going to your destination even when one didn't know the available routes going to that destination. . . This was by far the most useful search feature in this app. for people when not on a regularly ridden route or when they are out and about exploring public transit as a means of recreational exploration of their city.

Caching of the stop schedule would be helpful. As I approach the DSTT I check the University St Station Bay A (#565) arrival times. Once I enter the DSTT I have no way of checking that listing again due to lack of signal in the DSTT. If this list could be cached so it can be checked without service it would be helpful so that I know the order of buses/trains arriving in the tunnel. My express (MT 316) is infrequent (every 20+ min) so it is helpful to know what buses are in front of it or how many trains are in front of it (causing delay) to determine if I missed it and should take alternative routes.

give some information regarding the accuracy of the times. Generally, they underestimate the times, but I have missed the bus once when I cut it close. Sometimes it says arriving when its not yet in sight.
Also, when buses change numbers it can get a little confusing perhaps. Not sure about this.

Since this application is Washington state specific, the map should not start at a world view perspective. If anything, it should give the option to have a default area, or stay at the last viewed location and wait for user input.

It would be awesome if I could be notified X minutes before Y bus arrived at stop Z.
Keep up the good work!

add multi-stop bookmarks to the android app

Unless I'm missin it, you should include all the route times, not just the next one to depart. Also, it'd be great if you guys could create a trip planner for those who take multiple buses. Other than that, great app guys!

A common use case is that I take the same bus at the same time everyday. It would be great to be able to define a time period where a certain bookmark becomes the default stop selected when I open the application. So when I open the app on my walk to the bus stop in the morning, it already knows what route I'm looking for information on and takes me directly to that stop instead of the bookmarks screen.

Am I just really dense in that I'm not 100% sure what the info you're displaying means? It would be great if you had a legend that explained what the columns and colors are. Like, for my stop when you list a time and then say there's an X minute delay and then have a blue -2 minutes, what does that all mean?
